David Chapman, serves as the Scout Executive/ CEO of the Buffalo Trail Council.

The Scout Executive position drives the major initiatives and programs for the organization, which covers 18 counties in the West Texas region.

Chapman, a northeast Texas native, has worked with the Boy Scouts for 22 years. He has served in a Professional capacity in Dallas, TX, Tulsa, Okla., San Angelo, TX and Ft. Worth, TX. He most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer for the Colonial Virginia Council, which covers 13 counties across Virginia.

West Texas culture is what drew Chapman to this position. He said it aligns with the beliefs of the BSA. Familiar with the area, he hopes to see a growth in programs that allows for the area to continue to boom.

“The folks in West Texas are our greatest asset,” he said.

Chapman is married to Vicki with two grown sons, Justin and Hunter, with the latter being an Eagle Scout.

Matt Vercher

Originally from Houston, Texas and married for 22 years to Tammy with a son Michael and daughter Crysta. Matt spent twelve years in the US Army as a combat firefighter in Texas and Alaska with four years at Goodfellow Air Force Base as a Master Fire Instructor. After active duty he worked in Kosovo for one year and while on leave was offered a District Executive position with Concho Valley Council. Four years later Matt was promoted to District Director in the Florida Keys for the South Florida Council. After six years on Scout Key developing a program at Camp Jackson Sawyer he was offered a position with the Colonial Virginia Council in Virginia. As the Council’s Camping and Outdoor Programs Director Matt also served as Camp and Reservation Director at Bayport Scout Reservation. For the past 3 years Matt ran a successful program with over 3,000 campers each year.

Matt began his new responsibilities as a District Director in the Buffalo Trail Council on September 15, 2013.

Matt’s responsibilities include Supervision of Chaparral District and Leadership for District Executives.

Aaron has had a long relationship with Scouting beginning in Muskogee, Oklahoma where he became a Cub Scout. His trail to Eagle led him around the country and eventually the world. He recently returned to the United States after spending more than six years in Japan as a teacher and photographer and has spent time in two dozen countries doing exploring and mission work. “Scouting broadened not only my view of the world but of life in general. I hope to be able to share some of my experience and plan to do my best to contribute to the communities which rely upon Scouting in Buffalo Trail Council.”

Before returning to America and re-entering Scouting in West Texas to fill the positions of District Director and Development Director, he also served as membership chairman for the Far East Council and filled multiple roles as a professional Scouter in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and California. His hobbies include cycling, backpacking, mountain climbing, photography, and occasionally singing jazz.

Mark Richardson serves as the Assistant Scout Executive for the Buffalo Trail Council. He started in this Council on February 15, 2013 as the Director for Camping and Outdoor Activities. Mark will continue his role at Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch but will also be responsible for the field operations.

Mark has served in four Councils, including; Concho Valley Council, Bay Area Council, Longhorn Council and now the Buffalo Trail Council. He is an Eagle from this Council, earning his Eagle Scout through Troop 5 in Big Spring. He is a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow (completing his Ordeal at BTSR as a youth).

Mark has a tremendous wife of 22 years, two amazing students at Coahoma High School and three great dogs.

Brian Sweeney

Brian serves as the District Executive for our Lone Star District, headquartered in Big Spring, Texas. Brian comes to us from Raleigh, North Carolina, and began his career in Scouting in 2011, right here in Buffalo Trail Council.

Brian is an Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor and Founder’s Award recipient in the Order of the Arrow, and received his Bachelor of Science in Forensic Anthropology from the University of Florida.

Brian and his wife, Melissa, live in Big Spring with their daughter, Emily Grace.

Christopher Cooper

Christopher Cooper was born and raised in Newport News Virginia. He received his Eagle rank in 2008 he took a job with Colonial Virginia Council’s summer camp, Bayport Scout Reservation. During his time there Chris held the position of Trail to Eagle director, Climbing director, COPE director and assistant Ranger. Mr. Cooper attended Longwood University and received degrees in both History and Anthropology. Following graduation Mr. Cooper refused to grow up and vowed to continue working at boy scout camp as long as possible. Chris is now the district executive for the Big Bend district as well as the assistant ranger under Dan Damon.

His hobbies include reading and writing as well as trying to not break things at the ranch. Chris began working for the Buffalo Trail council on October 2nd 2013.

Mary Pearce serves as the Accounting Assistant for the Buffalo Trail Council. Mary handles Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, and payroll, and has been with the Council for 23 years.

She has been married for 43 years to David Pearce who is an Eagle Scout. Has one son, Chris, who is also an Eagle Scout. Chris is married to Amber and has 2 wonderful daughters, Kiah and Cheyenne. The girls are very active year round soccer players and Mary and her husband are avid supporters and follow along to all the soccer games.

She is married and has 3 beautiful girls, Katie who is married and has a very handsome son, Sophia and Liana. Gracie is a Crew Advisor for Crew 19 and has been a member of Midland West Side Lions Club since 2007.

Hailey Harpole is the Membership Registrar and Finance Registrar to the council.

Hailey is always eager to help our volunteers with all of their membership needs, and is known to always have a smile on her face. She resides in Midland with her husband Raleigh and their 3 dogs; Scout, Belle, and Gatsby. One of her favorite hobbies is volunteering seasonally at a haunted house in Fort Worth, which is where she met her husband!

“rangerdan” was baptized “Daniel Damon,” 50-something years ago. He started his Scouting career in Houston, Texas, earned Eagle rank, and worked summer camp staff and later as Assistant Ranger at El Rancho Cima Scout Reservation in the hill country. He took the Ranger position at Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch in 1985, where his daughter Kathy Damon (now Harty) was subsequently born and raised. Somewhere along the way he picked up a degree in Journalism from that place in Austin, and a Masters of Agriculture from Sul Ross State.

Currently, rangerdan resides in splendid isolation at the Scout ranch, overseeing maintenance & security of the 9,013 acres, with year-round responsibility for the horses, mules, and wranglers of the BTSR Horse Program. He spends his off-time spoiling his granddaughter Aubry, pursuing redfish on the Gulf Coast, and occasionally dabbles at writing.
