Council Camporee Results

“I’ve come to this camp MANY, MANY times before and I’ve never seen Needle Rock.”

Scouts test their GPS navigation skills below Needle Rock during the geocaching exercise.

It was fantastic watching the Scouts take in the sights for the first time. The base of Needle Rock made the perfect setting for a Search and Rescue drill.

Scouts honor God during a moment of prayer before the morning flag ceremony.

The Buffalo Trail Council’s 2014 spring camporee was a tremendous success. Events ranged from treating wasp stings, treating hypothermia, search and rescue events, a fallen climber, preparing for sudden inclement weather changes and even aquatic lifesaving skills. These events spread out along the Green Trail from the Trailhead to the Notch. Scouts took in the magnificient scenery of the Green Trail and competed in these events along the way. Most of these Scouts had never made it as far as Needle Rock let alone the Notch.

Scouts took a moment to pray for the families of the Scouts from Mexico involved in their tragedy.

Success was had by all participating in the Camporee. Event Winners were:

Wasp Sting: Crew 123

Severe Weather: Troop 152

Fallen Climber: Troop 1908

Search & Rescue: Troop 100

Hypothermia Victim: Troop 270 / Troop 129

Diving disaster at the Notch: Crew 123

Grand Champions (receiving Presidential Ribbons) Troop 91, Odessa and Troop 5, Big Spring

The evening campfire was topped off with a Rockin’ video set to music of the day’s events.

Congratulations to all of those that attended and had a great time. For those of you that weren’t there…you missed a great event!
