Motorcyclist/Board Member to Ride Perimeter of Texas in Three Days for Scouting
One of Buffalo Trail Council’s newest board members isn’t sitting down on the job. He’s sitting down on a motorcycle.
For three days, from May 5th through the 7th, Dr. Javier Morales OD of Odessa will be riding his motorcycle 3,200 miles around the perimeter of Texas – all in the name of raising money and awareness for Scouting.
When asked why, Morales answers, “Scouting is one of the very best programs going for youth. I had a great time in Scouting when I was younger. Now it’s time to give back.”
“The ride is like running a three-day marathon…”
It’s a true feat of endurance. “The ride is like running a three-day marathon, over a thousand miles a day, stopping only a few minutes for gas when the tank is about to run dry. That’s all there’s time for and then it’s back on the bike,” states Morales. “I’ve completed a similar ride before. I just ride as long as I can. I don’t know for sure if I can finish but I’ll do my best.”
He’ll be using a tracking device so that his progress can be followed throughout the course (a link to that is forthcoming). To support the good doctor and Scouting, you can make a pledge per mile in three different increments:
Eagle Sponsor: 5 cents per mile ($160)
First Class Sponsor: 2 cents per mile ($64)
Scout Sponsor: 1 cent per mile ($32)
100% of all proceeds will go toward helping Scouting achieve its goals in West Texas. All contributions are tax deductible. You can make a pledge online by clicking the link below. Put in the amount of your donation, apply your gift to “Other” and write in “Texas Ride” in the comments/questions box.
