Scouting For Food

“To help other people at all times…”

Scouting for Food is an annual community service event which will take place throughout Buffalo Trail Council Saturday, January 17th from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. All Scout units are strongly encouraged to participate in full class A uniforms. This event demonstrates to our community how much we as Scouts and Scouters stand behind the principals of good citizenship and doing a good turn daily.

One of the core elements of the Scouting program is giving back to our neighbors and the people in our communities through a variety of different service opportunities. Each time we recite the Scout Oath, we’re reminded that we are to do this at all times. Scouting for Food (SFF) is a wonderful chance to let our friends, neighbors, and other citizens throughout the Permian Basin know that we are a vibrant and active organization that delivers its promise.

 

Our local newspapers, radio and television stations will be involved in publicizing this newsworthy event. It’s all for a good cause and every bit of food and every dollar collected goes directly to West Texas Food Bank which is always in great need of replenishing their shelves right after the holidays.

Bags for food pick will be made available to Scout units in December to prepare for the January collection. Packs and Troops often have their own special food collection “parties” at Pack or Troop meetings and sometimes give incentives for the most cans of food, greatest weight collected, etc. There are a many things that can be done to encourage the food collection. Each district has a different Scouting For Food Coordinator and a drop off location for food:
